
Muscat: The National Committee for Competitiveness held its first regular meeting of the year today, chaired by Dr. Khamis Saif Al Jabri, Minister of Economy.
The meeting reviewed developments in international indices monitored by the National Competitiveness Office (NCO) in coordination with relevant authorities. The Office presented the Sultanate of Oman’s advanced results in several international indices, most notably Oman’s advancement by five places in the Global Innovation Index to reach 69th globally out of 139 countries. This was in addition to achieving Oman Vision 2040 target for the Economic Freedom Index, placing Oman among the top 40 countries globally by securing 39th place out of 176 countries covered by the report.
The Committee also discussed the key challenges facing the national working groups and potential solutions, with a view to enhancing integration among relevant entities and supporting Oman’s progress in international reports and indices. This followed a review of the latest activities of four national working groups, namely the National Working Group for Improving the Environmental Performance Index, the National Working Group for Improving the Business Readiness and Economic Freedom Indices, the National Working Group for Improving the Network Readiness Index, and the National Working Group for Improving the Global Innovation Index.
The National Committee for Competitiveness works to support the efforts of the National Competitiveness Office and to follow up on its programs and initiatives aimed at raising the Sultanate of Oman’s competitiveness and improving its performance in international indices. This contributes to achieving the targets of Oman Vision 2040 and strengthening the Sultanate of Oman’s position on the global stage.
