Oman host to World Cancer Summit next month

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman will host the World Cancer Summit 2025 on the third of November. The summit is organised by Oman Cancer Association in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Social Development, and Qatar Cancer Society.

To be held over four days at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC), the conference aims to unify global efforts in combating cancer by exploring the latest innovations in healthcare, enhancing prevention, and supporting scientific research. This will contribute to building a sustainable collaborative framework for a world safer from this major health challenge.

The agenda includes sessions covering vital topics such as innovations in healthcare, public policies for cancer control, and community awareness, in addition to workshops and an accompanying exhibition showcasing the latest technologies in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and digital solutions.

Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health stated that hosting this international event embodies Oman's steadfast commitment to strengthening international partnerships in cancer awareness, prevention and control. "Through this global event, we seek to exchange expertise, present the latest research, and adopt best practices that contribute to developing medical competencies and accelerating treatment and recovery pathways," he added.

On her turn, Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development said that organizing such conferences embodies the vital role of civil society institutions in supporting national efforts to achieve sustainable development and realizes an effective partnership between various sectors in the Sultanate of Oman for the service of humanity and the preservation of health.

She added that the importance of such conferences is not limited to the exchange of scientific expertise and knowledge, but extends to creating a profound social impact by enhancing community awareness of the importance of prevention, and the psychological and social support for cancer patients and their families, as well as entrenching the values of solidarity and shared responsibility among the various institutions and sectors of civil society.

Meanwhile, Dr. Wahid Ali Al Kharusi, Chairman of Oman Cancer Association pointed out that the conference will witness the participation of a select group of international experts in the fields of oncology, diagnostics, and palliative care, alongside specialists in artificial intelligence and precision medicine. Topics such as immunotherapy, personalised vaccines, and advanced cellular therapies will be discussed.

He added that the conference will include discussions on preparing a joint declaration, presented by Oman Cancer Association in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, to be shared with member states for their input and adoption as adaptable guidelines in the fields of cancer prevention and control. He emphasized that this international cooperation reflects Oman's commitment to leading regional efforts in this field.

He explained that the conference will yield important outcomes, most notably building local and regional capacities for early detection and effective treatment, adopting policy and regulatory frameworks through the "Muscat Declaration," enhancing research cooperation and technology transfer, in addition to increasing community awareness, establishing sustainable partnerships between various sectors, and securing better funding for the activities of Oman Cancer Association.

The World Cancer Summit 2025 represents an opportunity to enhance the Sultanate of Oman's position as a leading regional center for collaborative health work and to solidify its commitment to promoting public health and achieving sustainable development in this field.
