Oman joins the world in celebrating Earth Day

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Environment Authority, joins the world in celebrating Earth Day, observed annually on April 22nd, as part of global efforts to raise environmental awareness and promote sustainability and climate action.

This celebration, observed by more than 190 countries worldwide, underscores the importance of concerted efforts to protect natural resources, address growing environmental challenges, and encourage individuals and institutions to adopt environmentally responsible practices.

The Sultanate of Oman continues to make significant strides in environmental action regionally and internationally. In recent years, it has achieved several milestones, most notably its improved ranking in the Environmental Performance Index, placing it among the world's least polluted countries. Oman has also completed its national initiative to plant 10 million trees, aiming to enhance vegetation cover and increase natural carbon sinks.

Furthermore, the Sultanate has expanded its network of nature reserves to protect biodiversity and conserve endangered species. It has also strengthened climate change adaptation programs, supported clean energy, green hydrogen, and blue carbon projects, and developed advanced digital systems for pollution monitoring and more efficient response to environmental emergencies. The Environment Authority affirms its continued commitment to implementing integrated environmental policies that balance economic development with the preservation of natural resources, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, towards a low-carbon green economy and a sustainable environmental future.
