Muscat: The Embassy of Nepal in Muscat organised a ceremony on 31 August 2026 at Nepal House, in memory of the ten mountaineers who lost their lives in the tragic Broad Peak avalanche on 30 July 2026 and the victims of flash flood that struck Nepal on 26 August 2026.
The ceremony was graced by Ms. Bushra Al Ajmi, Acting Chief of the Asia-Pacific Department of the Foreign Ministry of the Sultanate of Oman and other participants included Ambassadors, diplomats, Everest climber Sulaiman Al Naabi, family members of the late Nadhira Al Harthy, members of the Oman-Nepal Friendship Association, media persons, Nepali community members and Omani friends.
The programme commenced with the national anthems of the Sultanate of Oman and Nepal.
Bishesh Kumar Sah, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Embassy of Nepal, delivered a message of condolence, expressing solidarity with the families of the deceased and the global mountaineering community.
He recalled the remarkable achievements of late Nadhira Al Harthy, who became the first Omani woman to climb Mount Everest in 2019.
He also informed how Nadhira Al Harthy was closely associated with Nepal and the Embassy. Sah paid tribute to the late Nirmal Purja (Nimsdai), renowned for his extraordinary achievement of climbing all 14 peaks above 8,000 metres in six months and six days. He remembered the other brave mountaineers who lost their lives on 30 July 2026 at Broad Peak.
Sah also expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives and property caused by the severe flash flood in Nepal on 26 August 2026.
He highlighted the ongoing search, rescue and relief efforts of the Government of Nepal and appealed for prayers and support for the affected people.
He also informed participants about the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund and encouraged support through the official web portal.
On the occasion, Ms Bushra Al Ajmi, Acting Chief of the Asia-Pacific Department of the Foreign Ministry of Oman, also shared a condolence message to the families of the departed souls.
She appreciated the initiative of the Embassy of Nepal in Muscat for organising an event to honor the heroes.
A minute of silence was observed in the memories of all those who left this world during the tragic incidents of 30 July and 26 August 2026.
The Embassy thanked all the participants for joining the memorial ceremony and standing in solidarity with the families of the deceased and the people of Nepal and Oman during this difficult time. The ceremony concluded with a Nepali dinner hosted by the Embassy.
