Salalah: A forum on "Archival Experiences" in Salalah has recommended unifying national efforts in document management, enhancing training and capacity-building programs, and adopting modern technologies for digitization and electronic preservation.
The goal is to ensure the sustainability of documents as an integral part of the national memory.
This came at the conclusion of the 3-day forum, which was organized by the National Records and Archives Authority at the Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar Governorate.
The final day of the forum included three main sessions. The first session addressed document sorting, discussing mechanisms and projects for sorting through practical case studies from the work environment. It also highlighted the public document sorting project as a fundamental step in a document's lifecycle.
The second session, titled "Document Digitization and Storage Locations," featured four presentations by different institutions showcasing their efforts to link digital and physical preservation.
This included the experience of Oman Airports in establishing a document management center, an initiative by Nama Dhofar Services Company, and presentations on Dhofar Municipality's files and the Environment Agency's secure document preservation initiative. The session was held in line with the national push towards digital transformation and information security.
