HM the Sultan orders Oman Cultural Complex renamed to ‘Sayyid Tarik bin Taimour Cultural Complex’

Muscat: As per the royal orders of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the project known as the Oman Cultural Complex shall be named as Sayyid Tarik bin Taimour Cultural Complex. This designation emanates from the profound wisdom of His Majesty the Sultan in his commitment to immortalize the noble legacy and distinguished contributions of eminent Omani figures who have played a pivotal role throughout the Sultanate of Oman's journey of prosperity and progress.

In gracious recognition of the achievements delivered by the late HH Sayyid Tarik bin Taimour, whose efforts contributed significantly to the building of modern Oman, and in acknowledgment of the profound national, cultural, and civilizational significance embodied by his name—a stature befitting the intended role of this edifice as a beacon of culture both locally and internationally—His Majesty has issued his royal directives to bestow this name.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth is profoundly honored to express to His Majesty the Sultan its utmost gratitude and appreciation for the gracious patronage and wise guidance accorded by His Majesty. This royal support has elevated Oman, with its authentic identity, to its esteemed standing on the cultural stage. In these blessed days of the Omani Renaissance, we pray to Allah the Almighty to safeguard His Majesty as magnanimous leader for Oman and its people, and to bestow him with His abundant blessings.

Sayyid Tarik bin Taimour bin Faisal bin Turki bin Said bin Sultan bin Ahmed bin Said Al Busaidi held the position of the first Prime Minister at the dawn of the blessed Renaissance in the Sultanate of Oman.

He received his education in both Turkey and Germany, achieving mastery of the languages of these two nations in addition to Arabic. He also underwent military training in India, and upon his return to the country, he assumed the position of the Head of Muscat and Muttrah Municipality during the 1940s.

His scholarly, political, and military background contributed to his support of the nation's political stability during the reign of his brother, Sultan Said bin Taimour. He also played a prominent role in laying the foundational stones for the blessed Renaissance era during the reign of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

On the international stage, Sayyid Tarik bin Taimour contributed to the accession of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations, leading its delegation in 1971, where he delivered the speech of the Sultanate of Oman. This address solidified Oman's presence on the international level and marked the inception of modern Omani policy and diplomacy.
