Khoula hospital doctors successfully carry out complex surgery

Sohar: A specialised medical team from Khoula Hospital has successfully performed an urgent interventional procedure at Sohar Hospital to treat a complex case involving an abnormal entanglement between cerebral arteries and veins, using advanced interventional neuroradiology (neurocatheterisation) techniques.

The case began when the patient was admitted to Sohar Hospital after experiencing recurrent neurological symptoms that required comprehensive diagnostic examinations.

Initial assessments revealed a complex cerebral vascular malformation, a rare and highly delicate condition that necessitates specialised medical intervention.

Accordingly, direct coordination was established with Khoula Hospital, a national referral centre for such advanced procedures, to develop a joint treatment plan aimed at ensuring the best possible outcome.

The procedure was carried out at Sohar Hospital using neurovascular catheterisation, a precise, minimally invasive technique performed through the blood vessels without the need for conventional open surgery.

This approach significantly reduces procedural risks and shortens the recovery period.

The intervention was completed successfully, with the medical team effectively treating the vascular malformation, resulting in a marked improvement in the patient’s clinical condition.

Dr. Ali bin Khalfan Al-Balushi, Senior Consultant in Neurology and Interventional Neuroradiology at Khoula Hospital, said that the success of the procedure reflects the advanced level of healthcare services in the Sultanate of Oman and underscores the importance of integrated cooperation among healthcare institutions.

He noted that exchanging expertise and complementing roles between hospitals ensures the provision of specialised, safe, and high-quality healthcare for patients.

He added that such collaboration contributes to enhancing the efficiency of national medical personnel and optimising the use of available medical resources and advanced technologies across healthcare institutions in Oman.

He also pointed out that Sohar Hospital is equipped with qualified medical teams specialised in neurology and interventional neuroradiology. -ONA
