Oman, Arab and Islamic countries reject Israel’s recognition of Somaliland

Muscat: The Foreign Ministers of the Sultanate of Oman, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Union of the Comoros, the Republic of Djibouti, the Republic of The Gambia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Iraq, the State of Kuwait, the State of Libya, the Republic of Maldives, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the State of Qatar, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the State of Palestine, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Federal Republic of Somalia, the Republic of the Sudan, the Republic of Türkiye, the Republic of Yemen, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation affirm the following:

1. Their categorical rejection of Israel’s announcement on December 26 ,2025 recognising the “Somaliland” region within the Federal Republic of Somalia, in view of the serious repercussions of this unprecedented step on peace and security in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, and its grave implications for international peace and security. This action also reflects Israel’s clear disregard for international law.

2. Their strongest condemnation of this recognition, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, which affirms the preservation of state sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

3. Their full support for the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia and their rejection of any measures that undermine Somalia’s unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory.

4. Their view that recognising the independence of parts of a state’s territory constitutes a dangerous precedent and a threat to international peace and security and to the established principles of international law and the UN Charter.

5. Their categorical rejection of linking this action to any plans to displace the Palestinian people outside their land, which are rejected in form and substance.
