MUSCAT: Malaysia emerged as men’s champions and Iran secured the women’s title as the Muscat Nights International 3×3 Basketball Championship concluded on Saturday evening at the Al Araimi Boulevard, following two high-intensity finals that showcased strong technical quality and competitive depth.
Malaysia lifted the men’s trophy after a narrow 16–14 victory over Oman’s national team (B) in a closely fought final, while Iran dominated the women’s decider with a 21–14 win against India.
The awards ceremony was held under the patronage of Sheikh Salim bin Abdullah Al Araimi, Board Member of Al Araimi Boulevard, and attended by Engineer Khalfan Al Naabi, Chairman of the Oman Basketball Association, Engineer Salem bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Director General of Muscat Municipality in Seeb, along with several officials and a large audience.
In the men’s final, Oman (B) made a strong start through Osama Al Riyami, with the contest remaining tight throughout. Abdulrahman Al Maamari and Ahmed Al Sinani played key roles for the hosts, but Malaysia’s composure and accurate shooting in the closing stages proved decisive, allowing them to edge ahead and secure the championship.
The women’s final saw Iran take control from the opening moments. Elina scored first before Shadi added two quick points to establish an early lead. Despite India’s efforts to respond, Kimia’s timely baskets helped Iran maintain momentum and gradually extend the margin. Iran sustained their attacking rhythm to win the title convincingly.
Earlier classification matches saw Oman (A) finish third in the men’s competition after defeating the Philippines 21–13, while Oman (A) women secured third place with a 5–4 victory over Oman (B).
Speaking after the tournament, Said Al Habsi, Acting Secretary-General of the Oman Basketball Association, praised the event’s organisational and technical success, attributing it to the cooperation of partners and the efforts of the organising committee.
He noted that hosting an international tournament of this scale for the first time posed challenges, particularly with teams arriving from outside the Gulf region, and thanked Muscat Municipality for its support.
Al Habsi added that the participation provided valuable international exposure for Omani players, contributing to improved technical standards, and reaffirmed the association’s ambition to further develop the championship in future editions while strengthening Omani basketball’s regional and international presence.
