Debris from drone damages Burj Al Arab hotel

The government of the emirate of Dubai said in a statement that debris from an intercepted drone had damaged the outer facade of the Burj Al Arab luxury hotel.

"Authorities confirm that a drone was intercepted, and debris caused a minor fire on the Burj Al Arab's outer facade," the Dubai Media Office said.

"Civil Defence teams responded immediately and brought the incident under control," it said, adding that no injuries had been reported in the incident.

It comes less than an hour after Dubai's government said that four staff were injured at the emirate's international airport in an "incident" in which the airport sustained "minor damage."

UAE says 137 missiles, 209 drones fired at territory from Iran

The United Arab Emirates said its air defenses have handled 137 missiles and 209 drones from Iran so far.

"The Ministry of Defense announced that the Air Force and Air Defense forces of the United Arab Emirates have succeeded, since the start of the Iranian attack, in intercepting and destroying 137 ballistic missiles and 209 drones launched toward the country's territories, confirming the high readiness of air defense systems and their capability to handle various threats," the UAE Defense Ministry posted on X.

"Additionally, 209 drones were detected, 195 of which were intercepted, while 14 fell within the country's territories and waters, causing some collateral damage." 

The ministry condemned the attack from Iran in the "strongest terms" and said it violates the UAE's sovereignty and international law.

The UAE is a key ally of the United States and has also normalized ties with Israel.

Earlier on Saturday, Dubai's government reported damage to the emirate's international airport and to the Burj Al Arab luxury hotel.

1 death, 7 injuries reported at Abu Dhabi's Zayed International Airport

Abu Dhabi Airports said one "Asian national" has died and seven others have been injured after an incident at the city's main airport, Zayed International. 

"The public is urged to avoid circulating rumors and to rely only on official sources," Abu Dhabi Airports posted on X. "Updates will be provided."

Zayed International is one of the busiest airports in the Middle East region.

4 airport staff injured in Dubai — government

Four staff at Dubai's international airport were injured in an "incident," the media office of Dubai's government said in a post on the platform X.

"Dubai Airports confirms that a concourse at Dubai International (DXB) sustained minor damage in an incident, which was quickly contained," the post read.

"Four staff sustained injuries and received prompt medical attention," it said.

The Dubai media office said that emergency response teams had been deployed to the site.

The statement did not specify the cause of the incident.

In response to US and Israeli strikes on Iran, Tehran has responded by firing missiles at Israel and targeting US bases in Gulf countries.
