Morocco's Sektioui replaces Queiroz as Oman football team head coach

MUSCAT: Morocco's Tarik Sektioui was on Sunday named as the new Oman national football team head coach, replacing Portuguese Carlos Queiroz.

Oman Football Association (OFA) confirmed the appointment of Sektioui on their official X handle and said that the former Morocco national U23 team coach will take over the national team for their next phase.

The former Moroccan Olympic and U19 teams coach will make his debut as coach of an overseas national team.

Sektioui arrives with a strong recent record in Moroccan football. He was appointed coach of Morocco’s Olympic side in 2024 and later led Morocco to the 2025 Arab Cup title in Qatar, adding to his growing profile as one of the country’s leading coaches.

The former Morocco international, who played in 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, also had a successful playing career in Portugal with Porto Club and also played for clubs in the Netherlands, France and the UAE.

Sektioui began managing in 2013 in his first of three spells at Maghreb de Fès, winning the Moroccan Throne Cup with them in 2016 and the CAF Confederation Cup with RS Berkane in 2019–20. He led three other clubs in the Botola and had a brief spell in the UAE Pro League with Emirates Club.
