Gates likely to be opened as water levels rise in dams

Muscat: Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources has warned that dam gates will be opened once water levels exceed 75 percent of their storage capacity, as part of measures to manage rising water levels and enhance groundwater recharge.

The ministry explained that the move comes in response to continued weather conditions affecting northern governorates of Oman, which are expected to intensify and lead to heavy flows in wadis. Opening the gates will help regulate water levels in dam reservoirs while allowing excess water to replenish underground aquifers.

Authorities stressed that these precautionary steps are essential to both manage flood risks and maximize the benefit of increased rainfall.

The ministry urged citizens and residents to stay away from wadis and low-lying areas, and to strictly follow safety instructions issued by relevant authorities.
