Muscat: The Supervisory Committee for the Elderly Sector Development Workshops held its first meeting today, chaired by Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development.
The meeting was convened to discuss the status of the elderly sector in the Sultanate of Oman and to work on its development in coordination with various partners from government and private entities, as well as civil society organizations.
The committee reviewed the current state of the elderly sector in the Sultanate of Oman and the joint efforts between various government, private, and civil society institutions to identify the most prominent challenges and gaps facing the sector.
Additionally, the discussions covered legislation supporting the elderly and ensuring their community participation, alongside working to enhance health services provided to them and reviewing incentives offered to the elderly sector to provide job opportunities in projects suitable for their age group.
The meeting also addressed the operational phases of the development workshops to ensure the achievement of the desired objectives and to elevate the quality of life for the elderly in the Sultanate of Oman.
