Salalah: The Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar Governorate, in collaboration with Al Hafa Development and Investment Company, organized an event today to mark World Heritage Day under the theme "Living Heritage and Emergency Response," held at the Cultural Heritage Complex in Al Hafa area.
The event aimed to introduce cultural heritage and its historical and civilizational significance, highlight the efforts of relevant authorities and institutions in its protection and preservation, enhance community awareness of the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage, and entrench concepts of sustainability in dealing with heritage sites and artifacts, thereby contributing to their transmission to future generations.
The event also focused on the importance of emergency response in heritage protection by shedding light on the practices and procedures followed for the preservation of historical sites and cultural artifacts under exceptional circumstances, while emphasizing the role of partnership between government institutions, the private sector, and the community in safeguarding this human legacy.
The event program included an orientation tour during which heritage specialists, enthusiasts, and school students learned about the story of the site and the historical sites associated with it. Participants were also introduced to traditional building materials and restoration methods, engaged in the hands-on restoration of pottery vessels, and assembled miniature models of traditional houses.
