Oman and UK seek to enhance cooperation in maritime and security fields

Muscat: Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi met Edward Llewellyn, Director General Political at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

The meeting addressed issues of mutual interest, foremost among them the latest developments in the region and their implications. They also exchanged views on ways to enhance de-escalation, reduce tensions and advance sustainable political and diplomatic solutions.

Lord Llewellyn listened to the Minister’s views on the importance of safeguarding the security and safety of maritime routes and strategic straits, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, and the need to ensure the smooth flow of international navigation to protect global supply chains and support economic stability.

The meeting highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination in the security and maritime fields, and the importance of exchanging expertise to support efforts aimed at maintaining security and stability in the region, while reinforcing adherence to international law and the principles of freedom of navigation.
