International Water Association selects Oman for prestigious 2028 global water event

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman has won the bid to host the 2028 International Water Loss Management Conference, organised by the International Water Association, becoming the first country in the Middle East to host the prestigious biennial event.

The conference serves as a global platform for showcasing innovative solutions, exchanging best practices, and discussing strategies to reduce water loss while enhancing the efficiency of water distribution networks and related services.

Hosting the event reflects growing international confidence in Oman’s advanced experience in water loss management and its integrated approach to developing sustainable water solutions. The achievement also highlights the country’s ongoing efforts to strengthen water security, improve infrastructure efficiency, and adopt smart technologies in utility management.

According to the announcement, Oman’s successful bid was supported by its development of a comprehensive model in managing non-revenue water, including smart network management solutions, leak detection and monitoring systems, and the expansion of water infrastructure.

The Sultanate’s water network currently extends to approximately 26,000 kilometers, serving more than 750,000 subscribers across the country.

The conference is expected to attract international experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss the latest trends and technologies in water sustainability, further reinforcing Oman’s position as a regional hub for innovation and knowledge exchange in the water sector.
