Muscat: Oman’s Environment Authority, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, has intercepted a violator at Muscat International Airport while he was attempting to smuggle the Omani spiny-tailed lizard, a species classified as endangered.
The Authority said it took the necessary legal measures against the offender after the attempt was uncovered.
It explained that the smuggling attempt was thwarted during a joint operation at the airport, underscoring the importance of continued coordination between enforcement bodies to protect wildlife and prevent illegal trafficking in protected species.
The Environment Authority reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing environmental laws and regulations, and to safeguarding biodiversity from any practices that threaten rare and endangered animals.
