Oman ranked second safest country in the world

Muscat: Oman has been ranked the second safest country in the world in the 2026 U.S. News Best Countries rankings for Public Safety, reaffirming the Sultanate’s reputation as one of the world’s most secure destinations for citizens, residents and tourists.

The latest rankings place Singapore at the top of the global public safety index, followed by Oman in second place and Japan in third.

Qatar ranked fourth, followed by Vietnam, Hungary, South Korea, New Zealand and Luxembourg.

The rankings are based on global perceptions of how safe countries are and form part of the broader U.S. News Best Countries report, which evaluates nations across a range of attributes.

The report highlighted Asia’s strong performance in public safety, with Singapore, Oman and Japan leading the category. While Oman excelled in the public safety rankings, the report noted that this is only one of several indicators used to assess countries and should not be viewed as an overall measure of national performance.

Oman has consistently earned international recognition for its low crime rates, political stability and welcoming environment. The country is widely regarded as a preferred destination for expatriates, investors and tourists seeking a peaceful and secure place to live, work and travel.

The latest recognition adds to a series of international accolades for Oman’s safety record, further strengthening its reputation as one of the safest countries in the Middle East and the world.
