Electricity generation in Oman rises by 6.8%

Muscat: Total electricity generation in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 6.8% by the end of May 2026, reaching 20,314.0 GWh, compared with 19,027.4 GWh during the corresponding period in 2025, according to the latest preliminary data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

Net electricity generation, which includes purchases by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and purchases by the Rural Areas Electricity Company by region, also increased by 6.8%, reaching 19,717.5 GWh, compared with 18,457.6 GWh during the same period of the previous year.

On the water sector, total water production declined by 3.4% to 201,255.4 thousand cubic metres. Muscat Governorate recorded a 6.8% decrease, with water production falling from 83,653.9 thousand cubic metres by the end of May 2025 to 78,000.6 thousand cubic metres during the corresponding period in 2026.

In contrast, water production in Dhofar Governorate increased by 2.9% to 32,086.4 cubic metres, compared with 31,183.9 cubic metres during the corresponding period of 2025. Meanwhile, water production in the remaining governorates declined by 2.5%, reaching 91,168.5 cubic metres, compared with 93,459.4 cubic metres during the same period of the previous year.
