Omani honey exhibition opens in Salalah

Salalah --- The Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in the Governorate of Dhofar today opened an Omani honey and turmeric exhibition in the Wilayat of Salalah.

The exhibition, which will run until 31 August 2026, aims to support honey producers and farmers and facilitate the marketing of their products.

The exhibition contributes to food security and showcases the finest varieties of Omani honey and local turmeric grown in Dhofar mountains.

Eng. Fa’il Mohammed Al Jahfali, Assistant Director General of Agriculture and Livestock in Dhofar Governorate, said that the Ministry’s programme to develop the beekeeping sector began in the early 1980s. In this drive, the Ministry lays emphasis on helping beekeepers gain basic skills, apply the best practices in managing beehives, combat pests and expand bee colonies, he added.

Al Jahfali pointed out that the Ministry's efforts contributed to achieving high rates of production of natural honey, raising the annual output by so far to 50 tons. The honey and turmeric exhibition is now being held for the 4th year in a row, he said.

He observed that turmeric constitutes one of the main crops that boost food processing industries. Local farmers grow turmeric during the Khareef (monsoon) in the mountainous provinces of Dhofar Governorate, said Al Jahfali, noting the cultivated area is in steady expansion on an annual basis.

Al Jahfali affirmed that the exhibition activates local food industries, supports rural families and encourages them to develop their projects with confidence.
