Omani AI project ranks among world’s top 13 at London science forum

MUSCAT: An artificial intelligence project developed by Omani innovator Aya bint Hamed Al Kindi has been selected among the world’s top 13 projects to be showcased at the 67th London International Young Scientists Forum (LIYSF), marking a significant achievement for Omani youth on the global innovation stage.

Oman is participating in this year’s forum under the umbrella of the Research and Innovation Authority (RIA) with 10 innovative scientific projects selected from a pool of 738 entries spanning science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Al-Kindi’s project was the only Omani entry to earn a place among the forum’s elite global selections.

Named “Guardian,” the project uses artificial intelligence to combat financial crimes, particularly money laundering.

The system analyses financial data with high accuracy, detects suspicious transaction patterns and predicts potential risks far more quickly than conventional monitoring systems.

Al-Kindi expressed pride in representing Oman internationally, saying the selection of Guardian among the world’s best projects demonstrates the ability of Omani innovators to develop advanced technological solutions with global relevance in critical fields such as financial security and financial technology.

She said the recognition reflects the growing capabilities of young Omani researchers and innovators to address complex global challenges through science and technology.

The achievement also highlights the increasing contribution of Omani youth to research and innovation in areas including artificial intelligence, environmental sustainability, energy and emerging technologies, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

The 67th London International Young Scientists Forum, taking place in London from July 19 to August 1, brings together talented students, researchers and young innovators from around the world and is regarded as one of the leading international platforms for showcasing excellence in STEM research and innovation.
