Two killed after firefighting helicopters collide in Greece

Athens--- Two people were killed after two firefighting helicopters collided while battling a massive wildfire that has destroyed more than 100 homes northwest of Athens.

The Greek Fire Service said the two victims were aboard one of the helicopters, while the two crew members of the other aircraft survived. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collision.

Greek authorities had raised the wildfire alert to its highest level for the Greater Athens area on Saturday as strong winds drove the flames closer to the capital, while firefighters continued efforts to contain the blaze. Several European countries, including France, Spain, Germany, Turkiye and Italy, are battling widespread wildfires amid warnings that rising temperatures and climate change are fueling their intensity.
