Muscat: The main index of the Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) reduced its losses during the week, declining by 33 points after falling by about 300 points and 154 points in the previous two weeks, benefiting from increased purchases by local investment funds and institutions.
It also benefited by the efforts of individual Omani investors to increase their purchases with the improvement of the shares of a number of leading companies, amid expectations of further improvement in the coming weeks, after the declines recorded by many leading stocks in the past two weeks.
Trading data issued by the Muscat Stock Exchange indicated that local investment funds and institutions injected more liquidity into trading during the week, pushing the value of trading up by 48 percent to OMR318.9 million, compared to OMR214.7 million in the week before. Meanwhile, the services sector index managed to rise by 11 points, benefiting from the rise in energy company shares as companies announced a number of positive developments. The week also saw a decline in the prices of 53 securities, compared to 24 securities whose prices rose and 17 securities that remained unchanged at their previous levels.
